We were hired to design a Children's Specialty Center outpatient clinic in Troy, Michigan. The site is located on Big Beaver Road, a main arterial through the town that was slated for re-zoning to make the street more pedestrian-friendly. The building needed to be a visible billboard for the hospital, as well as an intimate, colorful, fun environment for the children that would be visiting the site.
I performed an extensive site and regional analysis, visiting the area several times. Working with a local consultant, I determined the unique zoning characteristics of the site, and worked with our health care studio to lay out the exterior program elements. I then produced a series of concept drawings to explain the form generators of the building, and presented them to the CEO of the hospital. From there I led the schematic design process with our teams in Chicago and Detroit.
