We were provided a unique opportunity to renovate an existing affordable senior housing tower on Austin's east side, as well as to surround it with additional mixed-use housing, effectively doubling the amount of affordable housing on the site in this rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. The tower will house 225 residents, and the new buildings will house 275 more. Great care was taken to respect the canopy of mature live oak trees on site, while providing a dense, diverse living experience in what will become the center of an entirely new city block just east of downtown Austin.
I led the design team through schematics and design development, meeting regularly with the client, residents, and neighborhood representatives to ensure community input. I am now leading the production effort, as this project is currently in the documentation phase. This is the first multifamily project in this office to use Revit, and we have pioneered new BIM processes and standards as we have progressed through the design.
